Telkom on Friday (13 June), announced plans to roll out fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) to more than 20 local suburbs before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Telkom CEO, Sipho Maseko, said the group’s key focus includes the commercial launch of basic voice and broadband fibre-to-the-home and business FTTH\/B services to enable speeds of up to 100Mbps.<\/p>\n

“We will have fibre-to-the-home by the end of this financial year,” Maseko said at a company presentation in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

The group has launched a new web portal where South African broadband users can see if their area will get the telco’s planned FTTH services.<\/p>\n

According to the website, most areas in South Africa are enabled for fixed broadband, and as a result \u201cwe have seen exponential growth in broadband usage\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTelkom has now embarked on a journey to bring fibre-to-the-home to your neighbourhood, allowing for broadband speeds of up to 100 Mbps, in selected areas,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

Telkom is encouraging users to visit the fibre to the home portal<\/strong><\/a>, and enter their details to determine if their neighbourhood is earmarked for FTTH.<\/p>\n
