A syndicate linked to the theft of millions of Rands from a Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) bank account has been caught, according to a report on TimesLive.<\/p>\n

The syndicate reportedly comprised of married couple Darius and Janene Rhoda, as well as Michael Tsegofatso Kekana, Kagiso Matsimela, and Ishmael Mathabathe Sathekge, who all stand accused of the crime.<\/p>\n

Allegedly the accused used keylogging hardware to obtain credentials for the First National Bank account from which the money was stolen, including millions in fines paid by motorists.<\/p>\n

Rogue insiders installed the keyloggers on RTMC computers used for online banking.<\/p>\n

Times reported that a shopping spree followed the theft, with the perpetrators spending R8.7-million before being arrested.<\/p>\n

Purchases included watches, diamonds, emeralds, SAA flight tickets, sound systems, and Apple computer products.<\/p>\n

The five accused appeared in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court this week, the report said, and are out on R2,000 bail each.<\/p>\n

Spokespeople for the RTMC were not immediately available for comment on this story.<\/p>\n
