A Gumtree user \u201cAverage Joe\u201d published an advertisement selling South Africa\u2019s president Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n

The advertisement, published on 19 June 2014, is titled \u201cPresident for Sale<\/strong><\/a>\u201d. The page describes the offer as: \u201cDesperately in need of a functioning president. This one costs too much to maintain.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ad states that the seller \u201cwill take what we can get at the moment\u2026 just make an offer. Or to swap for smarter\/cheaper model\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo chancers \u2013 only barcode ID holders or TAX payers please,\u201d the advertisement continues.<\/p>\n

MyBroadband also contacted the Presidency for comment, but no feedback was received by the time of publication.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t sell Zuma: Gumtree<\/h3>\n

The Gumtree advertisement \u201cPresident for Sale\u201d was removed shortly after this article went live.<\/p>\n

Gumtree spokesperson Estelle Nagel explained that you can buy and sell pretty much anything on Gumtree, but you can\u2019t sell people \u2013 \u201ceven if they are in the public domain\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage users to only upload advertisements that offer legitimate goods and services (or requests for the aforementioned),\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
