{"id":61353,"date":"2014-06-26T09:16:28","date_gmt":"2014-06-26T07:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=61353"},"modified":"2014-06-26T09:16:28","modified_gmt":"2014-06-26T07:16:28","slug":"zuma-cabinet-to-cost-sa-tax-payers-r1-3-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/61353\/zuma-cabinet-to-cost-sa-tax-payers-r1-3-billion\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuma cabinet to cost SA tax payers R1.3 billion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Allinace has revealed that President Jacob Zuma\u2019s new additions to his cabinet will cost tax payers approximately R36 million.<\/p>\n<p>It follows a reply to a DA parliamentary question, which noted that it will cost R8 million and R4 million for the establishment of every new ministry and deputy ministry respectively.<\/p>\n<p>President Zuma\u2019s cabinet is set to cost South Africans an estimated R1.3 billion by 2016, the DA said.<\/p>\n<p>The president announced his new cabinet towards the end of May, including the launch of a new Ministry of Telecommunications and Postal Services, led by former Minister of State Security, Siyabonga Cwele.<\/p>\n<p>The communications department was also reconfigured to include more functions, led by communications minister, Faith Muthambi.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband recently calculated that with 35 ministers\u2019 and 37 deputy ministers\u2019 salaries to pay, President\u00a0 Zuma\u2019s new cabinet would cost South Africa over R143 million a year \u2013 excluding perks.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that the South African president currently earns R2,622,561 per year, while his deputy gets R2,478,378 per year.<\/p>\n<p>Every minister gets paid R2,106,607 per annum, while deputy ministers earn R1,734,835.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_61295\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Siyabonga-Cwele.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-61295\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61295\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Siyabonga-Cwele.png\" alt=\"Siyabonga Cwele\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Siyabonga-Cwele.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Siyabonga-Cwele-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-61295\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Siyabonga Cwele<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With no available leg room in the government\u2019s existing budget, new ministries are to be financed by siphoning off resources from other government departments,&#8221; the DA said.<\/p>\n<p>It said that the reply also revealed that no formal cost\u2013benefit analysis was conducted prior to the formation of the Department of Small Business.
