{"id":620549,"date":"2022-08-29T07:25:56","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T05:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=620549"},"modified":"2022-08-29T07:25:56","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T05:25:56","slug":"city-of-cape-town-to-create-25000-temporary-work-opportunities-in-these-positions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/620549\/city-of-cape-town-to-create-25000-temporary-work-opportunities-in-these-positions\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Cape Town to create 25,000 temporary work opportunities in these positions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Cape Town aims to create up to 25,000 temporary work opportunities through various Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects in the 2022\/2023 financial year.<\/p>\n<p>The city has set aside a budget of over R500 million from various spheres of government to support the implementation of these projects.<\/p>\n<p>The number of work opportunities could increase if further projects requiring EPWP support are approved, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Work opportunities include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Call centre workers<\/li>\n<li>Data capturing<\/li>\n<li>Learnerships in various sectors<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning<\/li>\n<li>Community liaison officers<\/li>\n<li>Law Enforcement Auxiliary officers<\/li>\n<li>Traffic wardens<\/li>\n<li>Field workers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Attracting investment to Cape Town and growing the economy to create enough jobs for our population will not occur overnight, so a programme like the EPWP is crucial to support marginalised communities in the interim. The modest income derived from these work opportunities does make a big difference in the lives of participants until they can find formal employment,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Cape Town said it is also making a concerted effort to ensure that these EPWP opportunities provide more than just income support.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More than 3,600 permanent workers\u2019 positions at the City have been filled by residents who have previously benefitted from the EPWP since the programme began.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a 27% ratio of new permanent workers appointed.
