{"id":62109,"date":"2014-07-07T10:50:39","date_gmt":"2014-07-07T08:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=62109"},"modified":"2014-07-07T10:50:39","modified_gmt":"2014-07-07T08:50:39","slug":"tsa-cracks-down-on-uncharged-mobile-devices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/62109\/tsa-cracks-down-on-uncharged-mobile-devices\/","title":{"rendered":"TSA cracks down on uncharged mobile devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"background-color: initial;\">US Transportation Security Administration&#8217;s (TSA) has warned people traveling directly to the US of stricter controls relating to electronic devices.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The TSA said that officers may ask passengers to power up some devices &#8211; including mobile phones &#8211; for screening, warning that powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson directed TSA to implement enhanced security measures at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>It did not outline which airports would be affected, but South Africa does have direct flights to the US.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the traveling public knows, all electronic devices are screened by security officers. During the security examination, officers may also ask that owners power up some devices, including cell phones. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.
