{"id":62211,"date":"2014-07-08T12:19:28","date_gmt":"2014-07-08T10:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=62211"},"modified":"2014-07-08T12:19:28","modified_gmt":"2014-07-08T10:19:28","slug":"guilty-for-being-white-at-telkom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/62211\/guilty-for-being-white-at-telkom\/","title":{"rendered":"Guilty for being white at Telkom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trade union Solidarity has launched a campaign against Telkom, accusing the group of carrying out large-scale retrenchments where race is used as a criterion.<\/p>\n<p>Solidarity has launched a website called <a title=\"http:\/\/racekom.co.za\/\" href=\"http:\/\/racekom.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Racekom.co.za<\/a>, claiming: &#8220;If you work at Telkom, and you are white, you are guilty! Guilty, because you&#8217;re the wrong race and you&#8217;re costing the company BEE points.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The union said that Telkom is carrying out large-scale retrenchments where race is used as a criterion. &#8220;Forget about the years of loyal service, your qualifications and the positive contribution you make,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>Solidarity said it has already lodged documents with the Labour Court to put a stop to Telkom\u2019s race-based retrenchments.<\/p>\n<p>The trade union wants to mobilise as many South Africans and, in particular, Telkom clients to send thousands of petition letters to the CEO of Telkom, Sipho Maseko, in order to have this unacceptable criterion for retrenchment withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p>It noted on its Twitter account on Tuesday (7 July): &#8216;Courts have made it clear.
