{"id":624171,"date":"2022-09-09T08:35:49","date_gmt":"2022-09-09T06:35:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=624171"},"modified":"2022-09-09T10:12:17","modified_gmt":"2022-09-09T08:12:17","slug":"new-smart-centre-for-driving-licence-renewals-in-south-africa-how-to-use-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/624171\/new-smart-centre-for-driving-licence-renewals-in-south-africa-how-to-use-it\/","title":{"rendered":"New smart centre for driving licence renewals in South Africa &#8211; how to use it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has launched its second &#8216;Smart&#8217; Driver&#8217;s Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) at a Gautrain station &#8211; launching at the Centurion station on Thursday (8 September).<\/p>\n<p>The new centre is part of a partnership with the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA), which aims to eventually offer licensing services at all its stations.<\/p>\n<p>Centres have so far been established at the GMA offices as well as the Gautrain Midrand &#8211; which opened in June &#8211; and Centurion stations.<\/p>\n<p>The centres make use of the <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/622897\/new-driving-licence-renewal-system-for-south-africa-coming-in-2023\/\">\u2018smart enrolment\u2019 system that has been trialled in Gauteng<\/a> over the past year, with plans for the system to expand to the rest of the province&#8217;s service centres in 2023, and thereafter to the rest of the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These smart testing centres are integrated into the Road Traffic Management Corporation\u2019s administration system. The GMA, through its Gautrain stations, is a service point for the DLTC. The services offered at Gautrain\u2019s DLTCs are the same as at all other testing centres across South Africa,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after Gauteng\u2019s Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC Jacob Mamabolo gazetted changes that will allow the Gautrain to perform some of the same functions as a traditional DLTC in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The regulatory Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) will be able to offer DLTC services from Gautrain stations, with the agency being graded as a \u2018Grade F\u2019 licencing centre. This means that it is authorised to process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Licence card renewals<\/li>\n<li>Temporary driver\u2019s licence applications<\/li>\n<li>Traffic fine payments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The DLTCs do not take cash payments and only electronic or card payments are accepted.<\/p>\n<p>Operating times for DLTC facilities at Gautrain stations and Gautrain Management Agency offices are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weekdays: 08h00 to 18h00<\/li>\n<li>Saturdays: 09h00 to 14h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The process to follow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Visit the National administration Traffic Information System (NaTIS) online: https:\/\/online.natis.gov.za\/#\/<\/p>\n<p>2. Request\/secure a slot.<\/p>\n<p>3. Download the confirmation document \u2013 the confirmation document (email\/SMS\/webpage) contains the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Initials and surname;<\/li>\n<li>ID number;<\/li>\n<li>Booking reference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. Go to the DLTC on the specified date and time.<\/p>\n<p>5. Visit the receptionist\/front desk:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bring your identity document (ID) and a copy of your ID, old driver\u2019s licence card or valid South African passport;<\/li>\n<li>Bring four black-and-white ID photographs (before you have photographs taken, confirm with the DLTC how many photos it requires);<\/li>\n<li>Bring an optometrist\u2019s certificate (optional and must not be older than three months).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6. Receive a DL1 (application for renewal of driver\u2019s licence card) form to complete.<\/p>\n<p>7. If your licence has been lost or stolen, you will receive a declaration in respect of lost documents form (DCT) to complete.<\/p>\n<p>8. If your address or marital status has changed, you will be given a change of particulars (NCP) form to fill out.<\/p>\n<p>9. Visit the examiner of driver\u2019s licences, who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrols you on a live capturing unit (LCU);<\/li>\n<li>Conducts an eye test (if you have not produced an optometrist\u2019s certificate);<\/li>\n<li>Completes the DL1 form;<\/li>\n<li>Sends you to the cashier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>10. The cashier:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completes your transaction on the NaTIS system to trigger a payment request;<\/li>\n<li>Collects your payment;<\/li>\n<li>Orders your card;<\/li>\n<li>Issues a temporary driver\u2019s licence (if required).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>11. If you are unable to collect your driver\u2019s licence card, you must complete an affidavit (Regulation 112A) acquired from the DLTC.
