The man, travelling with three others, was shot dead on Monday (3 October) during an alleged hijacking. The ambassador said that South Africa is a popular tourist destination for Germany – the third largest tourist market for the country, and an incident of this kind can have negative repercussions. Johannesburg is facing a water crisis thanks to load shedding, poor infrastructure and planning. With the introduction of a new Johannesburg mayor last week, no one is in charge of the city’s infrastructure\u00a0until the new council is announced. He says that with the festive season on the horizon, South Africa’s flight capacity will be heavily constrained, inflating ticket prices to new highs. He added that while FlySafair plans to add flights to its fleet, the capacity will still be only two-thirds of what it was pre-Covid. South Africa is currently on track with Eskom’s worst-case scenario set out in its summer plan, which estimated 27 days of load shedding in September and 22 days in October. As of 5 October, South Africa has experienced 2008 hours (84 days) of load shedding in 2022 – with more expected to come.
