{"id":63259,"date":"2014-07-18T08:51:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-18T06:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=63259"},"modified":"2014-07-18T08:51:20","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T06:51:20","slug":"retrenchments-going-ahead-telkom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/63259\/retrenchments-going-ahead-telkom\/","title":{"rendered":"Retrenchments going ahead: Telkom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko has informed staff on Friday (18 July 2014), that the company has not suspended its restructuring process.<\/p>\n<p>Trade union Solidarity said on Thursday, 17 July, that <a title=\"Telkom restructuring process\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/106467-telkom-retrenchments-halted.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Telkom had suspended its current restructuring and retrenchment process<\/strong><\/a> following an agreement with the union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes halting the process wherein Telkom intended to use race as a criterion for layoffs,\u201d Solidarity spokesman Marius Croucamp said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of the agreement, Telkom will suspend all planned selections, appointments, and retrenchments,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Maseko denied that the company suspended the restructuring and retrenchment process in an email to staff titled \u201cFurther consultation on Fit for the Future\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been approached by our trade union partners to have further discussions on the restructuring process,\u201d said Maseko.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have agreed to further consultation as we remain committed to a fair process that works in partnership with the various stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maseko added that despite recent statements in the media, they have \u201cnot suspended the restructuring but will use this process to get further input\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease know that we will continue to treat every employee with dignity and respect.
