Former Telkom chief, Jeffrey Hedberg, has been appointed as chief executive officer of Mobilink in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
With its headquarters in Islamabad, the operator boasts 38.1 million subscribers and market share of 28% as of March 2014.<\/p>\n
Hedberg succeeds Rashid Khan, who has decided to retire after over 14 years in leading positions with Mobilink and Banglalink, in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Hedberg is expected to take up his new position in early August.<\/p>\n
Hedberg was formerly appointed as the acting CEO of Telkom in 2010, and before that the CEO of Telkom’s Nigerian subsidiary, Multi-Links.<\/p>\n
In July 2011, he was appointed as COO to the previously listed Altech Group, a position which lasted through to January 2012.<\/p>\n
Hedberg was also credited with turning around South Africa’s third mobile operator, Cell C, during his tenure as CEO there.<\/p>\n
Hedberg was also chairman of Virgin Mobile South Africa.<\/p>\n
Jo Lunder, VimpelCom CEO, said: “Jeffrey has very strong operational telecoms experience with specific experience of emerging markets.”<\/p>\n
“He has held a number of leading roles including CEO of Telkom South Africa and of Cell C, prior to which he was chairman and CEO of Deutsche Telekom USA.”<\/p>\n
From 1999 to 2002, Hedberg was executive VP and member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom AG where he developed the strategy for the International Division and in 2002 he was appointed CEO and Chairman of Deutsche Telekom USA.<\/p>\n
He then joined Deutsche Telekom from Swisscom, where he became executive VP of Swisscom International in 1997.<\/p>\n
