The new schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, 28 October<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 2 \u2013 up to 16h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3 \u2013 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Saturday, 29 October<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No load shedding scheduled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sunday, 30 October<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No load shedding scheduled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Monday, 31 October<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 2 \u2013 05h00 \u2013 16h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3 \u2013 16h00 \u2013 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Load-shedding-28-October.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-638763\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Load-shedding-28-October.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Load-shedding-28-October.png 890w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Load-shedding-28-October-300x101.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Load-shedding-28-October-768x259.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eskom said it will publish a further update on Sunday, or as soon as there are any changes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since Thursday morning, Eskom teams have returned a generating unit each at Arnot, Kendal, Kriel and two units at Tutuka power stations,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The group currently has 6,234MW on planned maintenance, while another 13,779MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Debt takeover<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Load shedding is expected to be a part of life in South Africa for the foreseeable future, with new energy builds still years away from coming online to relieve the country\u2019s grid.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer has warned that it will be around for at least 18 months, with analysts warning that higher stages are expected in the near term.<\/p>\n<p>Finance minister Enoch Godongwana on Wednesday (26 October) announced that the government will be taking on a significant portion of Eskom\u2019s R400 billion debt, which should go a long way in assisting the power utility in sorting out its financial crisis, which is also impacting its ability to maintain its ageing fleet.<\/p>\n<p>While the full quantum of the debt takeover is not yet known, Godongwana said it would be between one- to two-thirds of total debt, giving a range of R130 billion to R260 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImportantly, the programme will include strict conditions required of Eskom and other stakeholders before and during the debt transfer.
