Sentech employees affiliated with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) say they want a 19% increase in pay – something that the state-owned signal distributor says is unaffordable.<\/p>\n
Sentech workers have been on strike since Saturday (26 July) after negotiations with management broke down over pay.<\/p>\n
The union initially demanded what amounted to a 56% increase in basic salary on average per employee for 2014\/15, but ultimately issued a final demand of 19%.<\/p>\n
Sentech has noted, however, that the parties have once again failed to reach an agreement on the matter.<\/p>\n
“These demands by CWU are not affordable and will have a negative effect on the sustainability of the business,” Sentech said.<\/p>\n
The group confirmed that its services remain stable.<\/p>\n
“The company continues to concentrate its remaining capacity on minimising the impact on customers,” it said.<\/p>\n
The CWU is the only recognised trade union within Sentech.<\/p>\n
