{"id":646287,"date":"2022-11-25T11:10:16","date_gmt":"2022-11-25T09:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=646287"},"modified":"2022-11-25T12:00:14","modified_gmt":"2022-11-25T10:00:14","slug":"new-coins-for-south-africa-in-2023-including-big-design-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/646287\/new-coins-for-south-africa-in-2023-including-big-design-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"New coins for South Africa in 2023 &#8211; including big design changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African Reserve Bank has gazetted the new designs for the 2023 Fourth Decimal Coin Series of South Africa, which will become legal tender from 1 January 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The new coins were first announced during a virtual meeting on 31 August, where the cabinet green-lit the new dimension, design, and compilation of the coins.<\/p>\n<p>The key change in the next series is that the word \u201cSouth Africa\u201d will be inserted on one side of the coins and printed in all the official languages.<\/p>\n<p>The coins will be minted on a rotational system with the use of all the official languages being printed onto the coin over a certain period. For the next ten years, the languages will be alternated annually.<\/p>\n<p>The following number of languages will be minted of the various coin varieties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>R5 \u2013 three languages will be used;<\/li>\n<li>R2, 50c, and 10c \u2013 two languages will be used;<\/li>\n<li>R1 \u2013 only one language will be used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
