{"id":64720,"date":"2014-08-03T09:46:28","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T07:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=64720"},"modified":"2014-08-03T09:49:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-03T07:49:57","slug":"bafana-matches-go-to-pay-tv-for-r1-billion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/64720\/bafana-matches-go-to-pay-tv-for-r1-billion\/","title":{"rendered":"Bafana matches go to pay-TV for R1 billion: reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African Football Association (Safa) has sold the live broadcast rights of South Africa\u2019s soccer team, Bafana Bafana, to new pay TV license holder Siyaya TV, the Sunday Times and City Press reported.<\/p>\n<p>This includes the rights to the matches of the national football team, the junior teams, and the national women\u2019s team. It also includes the ABC Motsepe League, Safa TV, and the annual Safa awards.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the TV and radio broadcast rights, the deal includes mobile and Internet streaming rights, the Sunday Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>Siyaya TV was among the five companies that <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/101252-new-pay-tv-licences-granted-in-sa.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>received provisional pay-TV licenses<\/strong><\/a> from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the City Press, the deal will see Safa receive R175-million per year for six years.
