The Sunday Independent reported that some middle managers at the SABC received an additional month\u2019s salary on Friday, while others received an R8,000 bonus.<\/p>\n
These bonuses, the newspaper reported, was \u2018at the behest of SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng\u2019. It was further reported that he also proposed that executives receive a R100,000 bonus each.<\/p>\n
However, a source told the Sunday Independent that executives were offered two month\u2019s salary as part of the bonus scheme.<\/p>\n
An SABC spokesperson told the newspaper that the payments were not bonuses, but rather \u201cex-gratia payments thanking staff for their work\u201d.<\/p>\n
This report confirms a Sunday Times report on 20 July 2014<\/strong><\/a> that the SABC has paid around R42 million in bonuses to its staff and middle management, The Sunday Times reported.<\/p>\n According to the report, bonuses of R8000 after tax were paid to 3007 workers as part of a wage agreement with unions.<\/p>\n In July 2014 SABC Group CEO Tian Olivier said that the SABC will apply to the Minister of Communications for an annual TV license fee increases.<\/p>\n Speaking to parliament, Olivier said that regular TV licence tariff increases are crucial if the SABC is not to fall behind in raising funding to adequate levels.<\/p>\n He added that they are planning to increase commercial revenue through employing market penetration and market development tactics as well as product development tactics.<\/p>\n The public broadcaster had a checkered past when it comes to finances.
