Mxit chief product officer Vincent Maher has jumped over to Kagiso Media to head up the company’s innovation office.<\/p>\n
Maher will serve as chief innovation officer at Kagiso, and will be involved with “the development of new and innovative concepts, prototyping new products in the mobile and apps space and looking at the technical standards across the group”.<\/p>\n
Kagiso Media owns the www.howzit.msn.com portal, which is published under licence from Microsoft, along with several other new media properties such as Zalebs and Adfu.<\/p>\n
The group has taken a strong stance on its digital strategy, which the group said would be “core to everything we do”.<\/p>\n
“New approaches,\u00a0innovation and creativity will enable Kagiso Media to grow and compete,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n
The group also owns several high profile radio titles including East Coast Radio,\u00a0Jacaranda FM 94.2, and Kaya FM.<\/p>\n
Maher co-founded mobile community specialist, Motribe, which was acquired by Mxit in 2012. He then took up the role as chief product officer at the social platform.<\/p>\n
Maher has been a long-standing name in the South African tech and web community, having been involved with Vodacom’s The Grid social network and Legends of Echo mobile game, which shut down in 2012.<\/p>\n
He’s previously been involved with the Mail & Guardian and also content aggregator Amatomu.com, which he co-founded with Memeburn founder, Matthew Buckland.<\/p>\n
Kagiso Media delisted from the JSE in 2013 after parent company Kagiso Tiso Holdings bought out minority shareholders.<\/p>\n
