Vodacom has launched the Smart Kicka, a new smartphone which costs R549 and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis device, which is the first ever Vodacom-branded device, was designed specifically to make it possible for more South Africans than ever before to access to the internet,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n
The Vodacom Smart Kicka ships with 4GB memory, a 3.5-inch screen, and a 2\u00a0mega-pixel camera.<\/p>\n
The device also comes with five free 50 megabyte (MB) Power Bundles.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the moment only 27% of people living in South Africa\u2019s emerging markets have access to smart devices. We aim to double that number in the next year.”<\/p>\n
“The Smart Kicka is not only affordable, coming in at around the US$50 level, but also offers the best from a technology perspective,\u201d said Phil Patel, chief commercial officer at Vodacom.<\/p>\n
The mobile operator said it has brought down the average effective price per MB of data by 30% over the past year. \u00a0This has resulted in a 70% increase in data traffic on its network, with over 52% of Vodacom\u2019s 32.5 million South African customers now using data.<\/p>\n
