Vodacom said that “all our systems are currently up and running without any interruptions”, while Telkom reported that everything was okay “at the moment”.<\/p>\n
Roughly a minute-long earth tremor was felt in various parts of the country on Tuesday afternoon, with citizens from Johannesburg to KwaZulu-Natal, North West, and Cape Town reportedly feeling the tremor.<\/p>\n
Reuters reported a 5.3 magnitude earthquake which hit central South Africa, shaking buildings in the financial capital of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor was centred in Orkney, 120 km (70 miles) southwest of Johannesburg, an area with a high concentration of gold mines.<\/p>\n
Reports coming from the epicenter of the quake detailed structural damage to buildings and collapsed houses. There were no reported casualties.<\/p>\n
Johannesburg emergency services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said the tremor was felt in most parts of the city.<\/p>\n
“The city has not received any reports of injuries, or collapsed building. However we will be monitoring the situation.”.<\/p>\n
