Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented daily from 16h00 until 05h00.<\/p>\n<p>This pattern will be repeated daily until further notice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, 28 December<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 4: until\u00a000h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Thursday, 29 December<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Friday, 30 December<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3: 05h00 to 16h00<\/li>\n<li>Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The escalation comes after the breakdown of four generating units and delays in returning some units to service,\u00a0 Eskom said.<\/p>\n<p>More than half of 2022 has seen days with load shedding, with South Africa hitting the 200 day mark on Tuesday (27 December)\u00a0 -and things are only expected to get worse in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa is likely to sit with prolonged levels of load shedding for the foreseeable future. On Saturday (10 December) 1,000MW was removed from the grid through Koeberg unit 1 being taken offline, and approximately 3,000MW is offline from various breakdowns at Kusile and Medupi.<\/p>\n<p>According to Eskom\u2019s outlook for the next year, it needs to keep breakdowns below 13,000MW to stave off the worst of load shedding, but the utility has struggled to keep outages below 16,000MW \u2013 the worst-case scenario in its plans.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter announced his resignation this week on the back of the worst levels of load shedding on record.
