Fans, celebrities, friends and even US President Barack Obama have taken to Twitter and other social media channels to pay tribute to comedian and actor, Robin Williams, who passed away on Monday.<\/p>\n
Williams was found dead on Monday (US time) from an apparent suicide at his home in Northern California.<\/p>\n
He had been recently been suffering from severe depression, his publicist Mara Buxbaum said in a statement, and the actor had repeatedly talked about his past struggles with alcohol.<\/p>\n
The news of the 63-year-old actor’s death was met with an outpouring of grief from celebrities and fans across a multitude of channels, with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram users all paying tribute to the legend.<\/p>\n
U.S. President Barack Obama called Williams a “one of a kind” actor who could make people laugh and cry with his array of characters.<\/p>\n
Williams, who was born in Chicago in 1951 and grew up in suburban Detroit, earned four Academy Award nominations, the first for his portrayal of U.S. Army radio host Adrian Cronauer during the Vietnam War in “Good Morning, Vietnam.”<\/p>\n
He earned nominations for the 1990 coming-of-age prep school drama “Dead Poets Society” and 1991’s “The Fisher King.”<\/p>\n
Other famous roles by Williams include the Genie in “Disney’s Aladdin”; husband trying to get his family back under the guise of “Mrs Doubtfire”, and starring roles in “Flubber”, “One Hour Photo”, and “Good Will Hunting”.<\/p>\n
According to boxofficemojo.com, Williams highest grossing movie was Mrs Doubtfire, which earned a total of $219.2 million at the box office ($429.3 million with ticket prices adjusted for 2014).<\/p>\n
His movies grossed over $3.16 billion over his lifetime ($5.14 billion adjusted) in the USA, and $5.16 billion (unadjusted) worldwide.<\/p>\n
Williams married three times, most recently in 2011 to Susan Schneider. He had three children.<\/p>\n
“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” Schneider said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Williams’ final posts on social media was a birthday tribute to his daughter, Zelda Williams, and a shout-out promo for his latest movie, Night at the Museum 3, which is set to open later this year.<\/p>\n
“#tbt (throw-back-Thursday) and Happy Birthday to Ms. Zelda Rae Williams! Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl. Happy Birthday @zeldawilliams Love you,” the actor said on 1 August.<\/p>\n
