{"id":657847,"date":"2023-01-20T08:24:54","date_gmt":"2023-01-20T06:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=657847"},"modified":"2023-01-23T09:45:17","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T07:45:17","slug":"2022-matric-results-top-performing-independent-schools-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/657847\/2022-matric-results-top-performing-independent-schools-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"2022 matric results: Top-performing independent schools in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several South African private schools whose pupils wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric exams recorded exceptional results in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The allure of sending your child to a private school in South Africa is rooted in the perception that these institutions provide a superior education.<\/p>\n<p>Private schools often offer smaller class sizes, more individual attention, and access to highly qualified teachers due to having more funding than their public counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>These differences seemed to reflect in their matric results, with the IEB confirming a 98.42% pass rate in 2022, a slight uptick from 98.39% recorded in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, The Department of Basic Education has released the final National Senior Certificate results for the 2022 matric year showing a 3.7 percentage point increase in the pass rate to 80.1%.<\/p>\n<p>The top three independent boys&#8217; school achievers included St. John&#8217;s College, Hilton, and St Benedict&#8217;s College.<\/p>\n<p>St John&#8217;s College recorded a 100% bachelor&#8217;s pass with 3.1 distinctions per candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Hilton and St Benedict&#8217;s College achieved a 99% bachelor&#8217;s pass with 2.43 and 2.41 distinctions per candidate, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Comparatively, the top three girls&#8217; school achievers were Roedean, St Cyprian&#8217;s School, and Durban Girls&#8217; College.<\/p>\n<p>All three achieved a 100% bachelor&#8217;s pass with 4.64, 3.9, and 3.7 distinctions per candidate, respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x1heor9g x1qlqyl8 x1pd3egz x1a2a7pz\">Director of Inyanda Capital, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/chulumanco.macingwane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chulumanco Macingwane<\/a>, has compiled a comparative list of the most prominent IEB all boys and girls schools and their achievements, listed below.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The top Boys Schools\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>1.<\/strong> <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">100% BP, 3.1 distinctions per candidate;<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">38% of the class achieved an 80% average; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">11% of candidates had five or more subjects in the top 5% in the IEB (making the IEB Outstanding Achievement and commendable achievements lists).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>2. Hilton College\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">99% BP, 2.43 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">15% of candidates achieved six distinctions or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>3. St Benedict&#8217;s College <\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">99% BP, 2.41 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">23% of the class achieved an 80% average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>4. Michaelhouse School <\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">2.3 distinctions per candidate;<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">22% of the class achieved an 80% average; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">8% of the class achieved six distinctions or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>5. St David&#8217;s Inanda<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">93% BP, 2.13 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">17% of the class achieved six or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>6. Kearsney College<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">98% BP, two distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">26% of the class got an 80% average.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>7. St Alban&#8217;s College<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">97% BP, 1.85 distinctions per candidate, and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">11% of candidates got six or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>8. Clifton School<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">96% BP, 1.8 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">12% of results achieved were above 80%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>9. St Stithians Boys College<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">99% BP, 1.7 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">6% of the class achieved six distinctions or more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>10. Roedean<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">100% BP, 4.64 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">39% of the class achieved six or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>2. St Cyprian&#8217;s School\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">100% BP, 3.9 distinctions per candidate; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">53% of the class achieved an average of 80% and above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>3. Durban Girls&#8217; College<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>100% BP, 3.7 Distinctions per candidate;<\/li>\n<li>50% of all results attained were 80% and above; and<\/li>\n<li>23% of the class achieved 6 or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>4. St Mary&#8217;s Waverly<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">100% BP, 3.58 distinctions per candidate;<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">44% of the class achieved an 80% average; and<\/li>\n<li dir=\"auto\">29% of the class achieved six or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>5. Maris Stella<\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"auto\">98% BP, and 8% of the class achieved six or more distinctions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>12.
