{"id":661389,"date":"2023-02-01T17:07:23","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T15:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=661389"},"modified":"2023-02-02T07:01:39","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T05:01:39","slug":"the-most-valuable-banks-in-south-africa-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/661389\/the-most-valuable-banks-in-south-africa-in-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"The most valuable banks in South Africa in 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Bank has the highest Banking brand value of all South African banks.<\/p>\n<p>Brand Finance published its annual Banking 500 Report, which looks at most valuable and strongest banking brands in the world.<\/p>\n<p>FNB and Capitec were named the first and second strongest brands in the world by <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/661329\/fnb-edges-out-capitec-as-the-strongest-banking-brand-in-the-world\/\">Brand Finance<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>However, Standard Bank is the most valuable banking brand in South Africa, according to data supplied to BusinessTech from Brand Finance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Brand value refers to the present value of earnings specifically related to brand reputation. Organisations own and control these earnings by owning trademark rights,&#8221; says Brand Finance.<\/p>\n<p>Standard Bank&#8217;s brand value grew by over 10% in the last year to reach over $1.74 billion US dollars.<\/p>\n<p>However, Standard Bank&#8217;s rank of 145 in terms of brand value remains unchanged from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite, FNB being named the strongest banking brand on earth according to the Brand Finance&#8217;s Report, its overall brand value decreased by 3% to $1.54 billion. also known as &#8216;neobanks&#8217; &#8211; has risen by over 103% over the last year &#8211; increasing from $795.6 million in 2022 to $1,611.9 million in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Neobanks generally score highly in terms of sustainability and innovation &#8211;
