MultiChoice has announced the launch of its first HD single-view decoder, the DStv HD Decoder, replacing the existing standard definition single-view decoder.<\/p>\n
It follows a move by the Naspers-owned group to open up its HD channels to all its customers, earlier this month.<\/p>\n
MultiChoice said that DStv HD Decoder\u2019s user interface is similar to the DStv Explora as it\u2019s also locally developed by MultiChoice.<\/p>\n
The decoder is XtraView capable and can be paired with selected XtraView compatible decoders (excluding the SD PVR).<\/p>\n
However, it has no PVR functionality and is available at R499, or at R799 with installation.<\/p>\n
The DStv Explora, launched in 2013, is MultiChoice\u2019s full-feature PVR. Both decoders are manufactured in South Africa, with the user interface software designed and developed by MultiChoice.<\/p>\n
Mark Rayner, COO for MultiChoice South Africa said that the new decoder makes HD channels more accessible.<\/p>\n
“High definition creates a far superior television viewing experience in terms of picture quality and the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound adds a new dimension to the audio experience. The DStv HD Decoder will open up a new world for many DStv customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
