Embattled national power utility Eskom has announced the appointment of Calib Cassim as the interim group CEO with immediate effect.<\/p>\n
Cassim<\/span> was appointed as Eskom<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> C<\/span>hief <\/span>F<\/span>inancial <\/span>O<\/span>fficer<\/span> (CFO)<\/span> in November 2018 after <\/span>serving as acting <\/span>CFO from July 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n According to Eskom,\u00a0Cassim<\/span> will lead <\/span> the <\/span>Es<\/span>kom management team<\/span> until <\/span>fur<\/span>the<\/span>r notice<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n He is a <\/span> registered<\/span> Chartered Accountant <\/span> (SA) <\/span> and holds a <\/span> m<\/span>aster<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s degree in Business <\/span>Leadership (MBL). He has <\/span>over 20 years of service at Eskom.<\/span><\/p>\n “His qualifications <\/span>and <\/span>extensive <\/span>experience<\/span> ha<\/span>ve<\/span> provided <\/span> Mr <\/span> Cassim<\/span> with a deep understanding <\/span> and appreciation <\/span> of <\/span> the <\/span>Eskom<\/span> business and the<\/span> electricity industry<\/span>, especially <\/span>regarding<\/span> the challenges facing the <\/span>financing of operations and future expansion<\/span> of the industry,” the group said.<\/span><\/p>\n The appointment of Cassim comes two days after the former CEO Andre de Ruyter stepped down from the company with immediate effect following an explosive interview where he alleged political infighting and corruption were hampering progress at the company.<\/p>\n On 22 February, the Eskom board and de Ruyter reached a mutual agreement to curtail his notice period.
