{"id":670863,"date":"2023-03-11T17:00:28","date_gmt":"2023-03-11T15:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=670863"},"modified":"2023-03-10T15:40:10","modified_gmt":"2023-03-10T13:40:10","slug":"the-best-estates-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/property\/670863\/the-best-estates-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the top luxury estates in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two South African estates have been named in New World Wealth&#8217;s top ten lifestyle estates for 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steyn City in Gauteng <\/strong>and <strong>Val de Vie in the Western Cape<\/strong> are the two South African estates in New World&#8217;s Wealth&#8217;s list.<\/p>\n<p>New World Wealth said estate living is rising globally, particularly among the wealthy.<\/p>\n<p>It estimates that 50% of <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/653507\/wip-where-the-uber-wealthy-spend-their-south-african-holidays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">centi-millionaires<\/a> &#8211; those with a net worth over $100 million &#8211; will either live or have second homes at lifestyle estates by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>The top 10 lifestyle estate picks for 2023 are (in alphabetical order):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bighorn Golf Club in the USA<\/li>\n<li>Estancia Club in the USA<\/li>\n<li>Jack&#8217;s Point in New Zealand<\/li>\n<li>Madison Club in the USA<\/li>\n<li>Millbrook in New Zealand<\/li>\n<li>Predator Ridge in Canada<\/li>\n<li>Steyn City in South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Toscana Castelfalfi in Italy<\/li>\n<li>Val de Vie in South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Yellowstone Club in the USA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>New World Wealth said all the estates picked were well-located, safe, well-maintained, private, and environmentally aware.<\/p>\n<p>It added that there were several possible reasons for the rising popularity of estate living across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>For one, with limited or controlled traffic on the estates, children are safer. Estates also boast high-end facilities, including gyms, cycling paths, tennis courts, golf courses, shops and restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>The safety and easy access to facilities offer greater convince to affluent ex-pats who regularly travel globally. In addition, estates have birdlife, wildlife, nice scenery, and many environmental benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Eco-friendly estates protect river systems, prefer indigenous vegetation, promote sustainable energy solutions like energy and water recycling, and have bio-corridors and wilderness zones that preserve dead and dying trees used by some of the world&#8217;s rarest birds to nest.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, eco-friendly estates offer natural forms of pest control, such as the installation of owl boxes.<\/p>\n<p>New World Wealth said that owl boxes are incredibly popular in South Africa, with one owl able to kill ten rodents a night, reducing the need for dangerous pesticides.<\/p>\n<p>Although not mentioned by New Wealth Fund, South African estates also offer respite from load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Steyn City&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steyncity.co.za\/steyn-city-newsletter-october-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City Centre<\/a> has backup power systems that ensure 24-hour power.<\/p>\n<p>Although not on the New Wealth Fund&#8217;s list, <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/664139\/this-estate-has-a-r200-million-solar-plan-to-cut-up-to-4-stages-of-load-shedding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midstream estate<\/a> has a R200 million plan to install a large battery bank to store energy from solar, Eskom, and, if necessary, a host of generators to protect residents from load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>Any plans to reduce the regularity and intensity of load shedding will make estates highly sought after by South Africans, especially those with wealth.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Steyn City,
