Cape Town and Durban King Shaka International Airports were both recognised at the Skytrax World Airport Awards.<\/a><\/p>\n

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA<\/span>) said that the awards are considered a quality benchmark for the world’s airport industry.<\/p>\n

Passengers vote for airports in a survey that assesses customer service and facilities across over 500 airports globally, with over 100 nationalities participating in the survey.<\/p>\n

Cape Town International Airport won the Best Airport in Africa and the Best Airport Staff in Africa awards. This is Cape Town’s eighth consecutive win for Best Airport and third consecutive win for Best Airport staff.<\/p>\n

While King Shaka Airport in Durban won the award for the Best Regional Airport in Africa<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is comforting to know that the work that is being done by\u00a0ACSA<\/span>, to bring its airports in line with international best practice, is being recognised, both at home and abroad,\u201d CEO Mpumi Mpofu said.<\/p>\n

Johannesburg airport (OR Tambo) was the third-best airport in Africa, while Bloemfontein took the last spot in the top 10.<\/p>\n

The Intercontinental Hotel OR Tambo won the Best Airport Hotel in Africa.<\/p>\n

Globally speaking, Singapore’s Changi airport won the award for the world’s best airport.<\/p>\n

Doha, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (2); Tokyo, Japan’s Haneda International Airport (3); Seoul, South Korea’s Incheon International Airport (4); and Paris, France’s Charles de Gaulle Airport (5) completed the rest of the top five.<\/p>\n

Despite the awards for Cape Town, its global ranking dropped from 33 in 2021 to 49 in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

King Shaka also dropped to 59 in 2022 from 52 in 2021, while Johannesburg dropped 17 positions to 71.<\/p>\n

South African airports and airlines are held in good regard internationally.<\/p>\n

As reported by News24, <\/a>King Shaka and Cape Town international airports made the top 20 of global travel data provider OAG rankings for the most on-time airports in the world.<\/p>\n

King Shaka Airport was in fifth spot – behind our Japanese airports – with an on-time performance of 89.73% and a 1.37% cancellation rate.<\/p>\n

Cape Town International Airport was in 16th spot, with an 87.26% on-time performance and a 1.02% cancellation rate.<\/p>\n

South African budget airline FlySafair was named the second most punctual airline in the world by OAG, trailing only Garuda Indonesia.<\/p>\n

FlySafair had an on-time performance of 95.3%, despite operating nearly 50% more flights in 2022 compared to 2019. Its cancellation rate also stood at 0.02%.<\/p>\n
