new cars launching in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New vehicles are set to launch in South Africa in 2023 and 2024 as the motor vehicle industry recovers from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa) said that South Africans bought 45,352 new vehicles in February 2023, which represented a 2.5% year-on-year increase compared to February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Although the local vehicle sales showed positive numbers, Naamsa said that exports declined by 11.5% \u2013 a concern as the automotive industry contributes 4.3% to the nation&#8217;s GDP.<\/p>\n<p>The association added that load shedding had a negative impact on vehicle production, while the current inflationary environment is having a direct impact on vehicle sales by influencing buying decisions of South African motorists.<\/p>\n<p>However, Naamsa still expects vehicle sales to grow in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile momentum for the new vehicle market has been slow, it is forecasted that both domestic sales will grow by 6.3% and export sales will grow by 8.3% in 2023,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Some vehicles that will be added to the South African vehicle market include:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/news\/70449\/toyota-gr-corolla-confirmed-for-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Toyota GR Corolla\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Toyota-GR-Corolla.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-673349 aligncenter\" Corolla will launch in South Africa within the next four months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPricing, detailed specification, and model line-up for the GR Corolla will be confirmed closer to launch timing,\u201d\u00a0 Toyota said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the high-performance hatchback will be sold in limited quantities at GR-focused dealerships exclusively.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/news\/70605\/when-the-new-chery-omoda-c5-is-going-on-sale-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chery Omoda C5\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Chery-Omoda-C5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" South Africa in mid-April, with 30 dealers across the country able to offer sales and support services.<\/p>\n<p>Omoda is Chery&#8217;s luxury-focused sub-brand, and its launch in South Africa will be the first in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The exact pricing for the new sub-brand is yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/news\/70735\/new-lexus-rz-electric-suv-coming-to-south-africa-what-you-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lexus RZ 450e will be launching in South Africa in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The RZ 450e will be the brand&#8217;s first built-from-the-ground-up battery-electric vehicle (BEV).<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer said that the BEV&#8217;s exact launch date and pricing will be announced closer to the launch.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a number of vehicles for South Africa&#8217;s roads are yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Top Auto said the touring will likely be offered to a limited number of clients in small batches.<\/p>\n<p>BusinessTech&#8217;s sister publication said that other limited-edition BMWs launched in South Africa over the last few years &#8211; the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/news\/66632\/new-bmw-m3-cs-revealed-a-limited-edition-track-star\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M3 CS<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/features\/59672\/a-closer-look-at-the-new-bmw-m4-csl-only-1000-units-for-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M4 CSL<\/a><\/strong>, and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/features\/39165\/bmw-m5-cs-sold-out-in-south-africa-here-are-the-other-r3-8-million-sports-cars-you-can-buy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M5 CS<\/a> date.<\/p>\n<p>Although little is known about the upgraded hatchback, Hyundai said that the South African model will be sourced from India.<\/p>\n<p>TopAuto said that South Africa&#8217;s new i10 will not be based on the one launching in Europe in 2024, and will likely be similar to the Grand i10 Nio that recently launched in India.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/features\/69748\/new-nissan-x-trail-coming-to-south-africa-heres-your-first-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Nissan fourth generation of its popular X-Trail in April 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Although the X-Trail is available with a pure internal combustion engine, a mild-hybrid powertrain, or two range-extender hybrid configurations in global markets, the South African version will only be offered as a petrol model at launch.<\/p>\n<p>However, the manufacturer said that hybrid technologies could be brought to the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore information on specifications, which include powertrains, will be announced at the time of the various launches planned across Africa,\u201d Nissan said.<\/p>\n<hr
