Telkom believes fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) is a premium service, so it will be priced at a premium relative to the rest of the fixed-line market, Telkom chief operating officer Brian Armstrong has said.<\/p>\n

While he could not disclose exact pricing or price ranges, the implication was that capped accounts for use on fibre networks would cost more than their DSL equivalents.<\/p>\n

Armstrong explained that as part of Telkom\u2019s retail arm he is also still waiting for confirmation on the pricing model from Telkom Wholesale.<\/p>\n

Telkom revealed its plans to commercially launch FTTH<\/a> by the end of 2014 during the MyBroadband Conference on 9 October 2013.<\/p>\n

Speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second would be on offer, Telkom said, thanks to the use of Gigabit Passive Optical Network technology.<\/p>\n

There are 26 suburbs around the country<\/a> in Gauteng, the Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal where Telkom will be offering home fibre services.<\/p>\n
