{"id":679363,"date":"2023-04-16T09:00:25","date_gmt":"2023-04-16T07:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=679363"},"modified":"2023-05-12T17:06:04","modified_gmt":"2023-05-12T15:06:04","slug":"countries-where-south-africans-can-buy-citizenship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/679363\/countries-where-south-africans-can-buy-citizenship\/","title":{"rendered":"Countries where South Africans can &#8216;buy&#8217; citizenship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are 11 countries across the world where wealthy South Africans can &#8216;buy citizenship.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henleyglobal.com\/citizenship-investment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Henley and Partners<\/a>, a growing number of nations offer citizenship by investment programs as they are attractive investment options.<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-lg col-md-12\">\n<p>The emigration firm added that wealthy individuals need a plan B for themselves and their families due to an unsettled and ever-changing world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Henley and Partners said that investment in different citizenship options offers both short-term value and long-term yield. In addition, the more diversified someone&#8217;s assets are, the less exposed they are to regional and global volatility.<\/p>\n<p>Many countries also offer residency via investment (golden visas).<\/p>\n<p>Africa also has its own residency by investment programs in <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/670541\/new-plan-b-for-wealthy-south-africans-residency-through-a-luxury-namibian-golf-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Namibia<\/a> and Mauritius for those with USD 300,000 (R5.5 million) and USD 375,000 (R6.8 million), respectively.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to Global Residence Index, golden visas and citizenship by investment are not the same.<\/p>\n<p>Citizenship by investment programs gives full citizenship to the applications, providing the same benefits as a natural-born citizen of that country will receive.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas golden visas only offer residency in another country and are only offered for a certain period.<\/p>\n<p>Although many golden visa countries allow investors to become citizens via a separate application process, this article only looks at countries where South Africans can become citizens through investment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Malta,
