What makes it worse is that we don’t participate in the survey so that makes it out of touch with reality as it is based merely on opinions with no empirical evidence,” it said.

The WEF used an Executive Opinion Survey for its education quality scores. As part of this survey local business leaders were asked:

In your country, how would you assess the quality of math and science education in schools?

How well does the educational system in your country meet the needs of a competitive economy?

In June, the department of basic education rejected a similar WEF report about the state of the country’s maths and science education.

“The report is not a credible or accurate reflection of the state of education in South Africa,” the department said in a statement.

More on education in SA

SA last in new global maths and science ranking

SA government rejects global maths ranking

Maths and science in SA: defending the indefensible

South Africa stone last in maths and science list

The Department of Basic Education has dismissed a new report published by the WEF which ranked South Africa last on the quality of its Mathematics and Science education.

[23
26,1942
post-68162","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-government","tag-headline","tag-wef
["GET
