Cape Town and Johannesburg residents only have a few days left to lodge objections to the latest General Valuations Roll across both metros.<\/p>\n
The City of Cape Town<\/strong> said that ratepayers should view the latest General Valuations Roll, which is open for electronic objections until 30 April 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n The city said that only well-reasoned options would be taken into consideration and based on comparable sales around the valuation from 1 July 2022.<\/p>\n “Much work has gone into looking at affordability and assistance to ratepayers. It has thus been proposed that residential properties of R5 million and under would have\u00a0<\/strong>no rates payable on the first R450,000. Over 700,000 properties in the metro are expected to benefit, representing 80% of all properties,” the city said.<\/p>\n The city added that it also has relief options for lower-valued properties.<\/p>\n “More pensioners and social grant recipients are expected to benefit from rates rebates by the raising of the qualifying limit from R17,500 to R22,000 total household income per month from 1 July 2023. Applications may be submitted to the city from 1 June 2023.”<\/p>\n ‘This year, we also have a new rates estimate calculator that is proving to be a helpful tool on the City’s website to show property owners their estimated rates increase from 1 July 2023,’ said the city’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.<\/p>\n Residents in the City of Johannesburg<\/strong> will have until 5 May 2023<\/strong> to lodge complaints against any entry in the General Valuation Roll 2023.<\/p>\n The city said that it would not offer any extensions beyond the closing date.<\/p>\n \u201cWe plead with our residents to not wait for the final day before they lodge objections. There is still enough time left until the closing date, so the residents should be utilizing this time to submit an objection,\u201d said Kgamanyane Maphologela from the city\u2019s Group Finance Department.<\/p>\n Maphologela said that residents should object early to get references for their objections, allowing them to track their complaints’ progress.<\/p>\n The city added that residents who wished to file their bulk objections should not approach Customer Service Centres but rather the Valuation office, as this is where their submission can be captured.<\/p>\n Clients are also encouraged to make an appointment so that their bulk objections can be processed at:\u00a0Valuation Administration, 1st Floor, Jorissen Place, 66 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.<\/p>\n
