{"id":683281,"date":"2023-04-26T12:46:20","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T10:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=683281"},"modified":"2023-04-26T12:46:20","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T10:46:20","slug":"critical-deadlines-for-johannesburg-and-cape-town-property-owners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/property\/683281\/critical-deadlines-for-johannesburg-and-cape-town-property-owners\/","title":{"rendered":"Critical deadlines for Johannesburg and Cape Town property owners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cape Town and Johannesburg residents only have a few days left to lodge objections to the latest General Valuations Roll across both metros.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The City of Cape Town<\/strong> said that ratepayers should view the latest General Valuations Roll, which is open for electronic objections until <strong>30 April 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The city said that only well-reasoned options would be taken into consideration and based on comparable sales around the valuation from 1 July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Much work has gone into looking at affordability and assistance to ratepayers. It has thus been proposed that residential properties of R5 million and under would have<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>no rates payable on the first R450,000. Over 700,000 properties in the metro are expected to benefit, representing 80% of all properties,&#8221; the city said.<\/p>\n<p>The city added that it also has relief options for lower-valued properties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More pensioners and social grant recipients are expected to benefit from rates rebates by the raising of the qualifying limit from R17,500 to R22,000 total household income per month from 1 July 2023. Applications may be submitted to the city from 1 June 2023.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This year, we also have a new rates estimate calculator that is proving to be a helpful tool on the City&#8217;s website to show property owners their estimated rates increase from 1 July 2023,&#8217; said the city&#8217;s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the <strong>City of Johannesburg<\/strong> will have until<strong> 5 May 2023<\/strong> to lodge complaints against any entry in the General Valuation Roll 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The city said that it would not offer any extensions beyond the closing date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe plead with our residents to not wait for the final day before they lodge objections.
