The fact that it was given to investigations, I said that was sufficient,” Masemola said.

The head of Hawks, Godfrey Lebeya, said that no investigations are being made into who may be the ‘high-level politician’ implicated in criminal activity at Eskom that De Ruyter has chosen not to name.

During an explosive interview with Enca, the former CEO said that he had told the unnamed minister that there was a high-level ANC politician involved in cartel activities.

De Ruyter alleged that the minister was not surprised by this information.

The private investigation initiated by De Ruyter has now landed him in hot water. De Ruyter hired George Fivaz Forensic & Risk to conduct a private investigation instead of the four specialist companies chosen by Eskom.

It is believed by some that De Ruyter bypassed necessary protocols to initiate the investigation and was not properly vetted by the State Security Agency during his tenure as Eskom CEO.

Scopa member Sakhumzi Moyo has raised concerns that the investigation posed a risk to Eskom.

According to Daily Maverick, which has received a first-hand comment from De Ruyter, the argument that he had provided a report on the investigation to the Hawks only recently – prior to him appearing for the first time in front of Scopa – was false.

The former CEO said that in June 2022, at a meeting at Megawatt Park with senior police officials, he had passed on intelligence to a designated brigadier, which was tasked with conveying the information to higher-ups, including the Hawks.

Read: How Eskom is dodging stage 7 load shedding – for now

Top police authorities have appeared before Scopa to discuss allegations of crime at Eskom however they fail to answer many questions.

[9874,23
26,18035
post-686559","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-energy","category-government","tag-headline","tag-scopa
["GET
