Vodacom is running live trials for enhanced voice services, which includes HD voice, echo cancellation, and noise reduction.<\/p>\n

Vodacom spokesperson Richard Boorman explained that echo cancellation and noise reduction will work on all handsets, while HD voice requires an HD voice capable handset.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clear plan is to provide improved voice quality to all of our customers no matter what handset they are using. We\u2019ll be making a proper announcement on this in the near future,\u201d said Boorman.<\/p>\n

In August,\u00a0MTN launched HD voice calling<\/strong><\/a> technology using the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) coding standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, there are no HD voice calls on LTE, so this technology applies to 3G calls,\u201d explained MTN SA CTO Eben Albertyn.<\/p>\n
