{"id":693491,"date":"2023-06-02T11:54:04","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T09:54:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=693491"},"modified":"2023-06-02T11:54:04","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T09:54:04","slug":"two-new-flight-routes-launching-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/693491\/two-new-flight-routes-launching-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Two new flight routes launching in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Domestic airline Airlink plans to add two more routes to its roster of destinations South Africans can fly to.<\/p>\n<p>The airline will open flights <strong>between Johannesburg and Lilongwe, and Blantyre, Malawi, from 4 September 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi will become the 16th country to be included in Airlink\u2019s comprehensive route network \u2013 including Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, and Madagascar, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO said the flights on these routes will be operated by Embraer Regional Jets. Airlink noted that on these routes, the airline offers a free 20kg economy class checked luggage allowance plus a free 15kg sporting equipment allowance.<\/p>\n<p>Flights on the new Lilongwe and Blantyre routes will operate at these times and days of the week from 4 and 5 September 2023, respectively:<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screenshot-2023-06-02-105824.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-693497\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screenshot-2023-06-02-105824.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screenshot-2023-06-02-105824.png 701w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Screenshot-2023-06-02-105824-300x109.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition to supporting the revitalisation of tourism, Airlink\u2019s new routes will also be able to play a key role in the current Malawi Growth and Development Strategy, which aims to diversify the economy and build a wealthy, self-reliant and industrialised middle-income country,\u201d said Airlink CEO and Managing Director Rodger Foster.<\/p>\n<p>Wildlife and tourism are vital to Malawi\u2019s economy, and it was crowned as one of Lonely Planet\u2019s\u00a0Best in Travel Top Countries\u00a0in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Tourist attractions include Lake Malawi (Africa\u2019s third-largest lake, which is more like an inland sea), wildlife, adventure and its rich cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New routes that have been launched this year\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, airline FlySafair was granted licences from the International Air Services Council (IASC) to open up three extra routes.
