Toyota South Africa (TSAM) intends to introduce at least one more vehicle to South Africa before the end of 2023 \u2013 the Toyota Crown <\/strong>\u2013 a car never seen on South African roads.<\/p>\n

The ever-popular carmaker has treated South African motorists to several great releases \u2013 including a refreshed Fortuner, the GR Corolla with its high-performance capabilities, a manual variant of the GR Supra, the all-new Urban Cruiser, and a revamped entry-level Agya now known as the Vitz.<\/p>\n

The success of Toyota in South Africa is now no surprise to many as it features as the country\u2019s most popular car brand every month \u2013 shown in Naamsa\u2019s monthly New Vehicle Sales report.<\/p>\n

As of May 2023, Toyota continues as the most popular brand in South Africa, selling 11,395 vehicles. This is partly due to the continued popularity of its flagship bakkie \u2013 the Toyota Hilux \u2013 which sold 2,798 units.<\/p>\n

The Crown will mark Toyota\u2019s fifth partially-electrified model to be sold domestically \u2013 joining the Corolla Sedan,\u00a0Corolla Cross,\u00a0Prius, and\u00a0RAV4.<\/p>\n

What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to TopAuto<\/a>, the Toyota Crown\u00a0was\u00a0planned to hit the showrooms in the first quarter of 2023, but its launch date was pushed out by a few months.<\/p>\n

Toyota noted that the Crown would be powered by a 2.5-litre parallel-hybrid drivetrain producing 176kW at a claimed average fuel consumption of 4.4l\/100km.<\/p>\n

TopAuto added that this setup resembles the RAV4 E-Four, featuring a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors on both axles and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).<\/p>\n

The internal combustion engine delivers 139kW, which adds to the electric units\u2019 89kW and 40kW for a total system output of around 175kW, which is sent to all four wheels.<\/p>\n

TSAM has remained tight-lipped regarding the remaining specifications of the Crown.<\/p>\n
