{"id":703145,"date":"2023-07-12T10:46:05","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T08:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=703145"},"modified":"2023-07-12T10:46:12","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T08:46:12","slug":"the-jses-new-private-marketplace-attracts-industry-collaboration-between-private-deals-and-institutional-and-individual-investors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/industry-news\/703145\/the-jses-new-private-marketplace-attracts-industry-collaboration-between-private-deals-and-institutional-and-individual-investors\/","title":{"rendered":"The JSE\u2019s new private marketplace attracts industry collaboration between private deals and institutional and individual investors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2022, the JSE launched an online marketplace called&nbsp;JSE Private Placements (JPP) which was awarded an FSP Category One License.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JPP aims to significantly improve the ease and accessibility of raising private (non-listed) funding while streamlining deal sourcing for private companies and individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jseprivateplacements.co.za\/?utm_source=BusinessTech&amp;utm_medium=Article&amp;utm_campaign=July+2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Click here to learn more about JSE Private Placements.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ren\u00e9 Moodley, who runs the IT and Operations for the business said the marketplace was built on a Fintech platform which has published deals with a total ticket size of over R5 billion in South Africa alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe qualifying criteria are simple: companies must be raising over R1 million and pass our compliance verification checks,\u201d said Moodley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey can raise Equity or Debt funds, in any industry, across the African continent. Furthermore, the platform has over R12 billion worth of investor funds (from South Africa, Africa and globally).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, investors must pass our compliance verification checks and provide us with their mandate requirements,\u201d said Moodley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many private companies are already collaborating with JPP by sending it a multitude of deals or investors, which it refers to as Aggregators. These include banks, corporate finance houses, SME incubators, advisors and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reason Aggregators are turning to the JPP platform and embracing industry collaboration is that they align with JPP\u2019s six-point mission:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Advancing Africa &#8211;<\/strong> To serve and act as a joint catalyst for Africa\u2019s economic growth by providing a single cross-border platform to raise and invest privately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collaboration &#8211;<\/strong> JPP works with Aggregators to create a win-win-win relationship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reach &#8211;<\/strong> Leveraging the JSE\u2019s vast and growing connections is envisaged to become more prominent than any single entity network in South Africa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Open Fintech &#8211;<\/strong> Aggregators can choose to leverage or white-label JPP\u2019s ecosystem. JPP\u2019s technology stack incorporates deep analytics and intelligence to manage and match entities across the continent effectively, with mutual consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ease \u2013<\/strong> JPP\u2019s fastest Aggregator was onboarded in just two weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost-effective &#8211;<\/strong> There are no upfront costs to Aggregators as JPP only receive its fees upon matching and closing a deal, meaning it\u2019s a zero-risk model to approved Aggregators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How does it work for Aggregators?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Aggregator and JPP agree on a collaboration strategy and go through a light onboarding process,\u201d said Moodley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFollowing that, the Aggregator or JPP may choose to share deals or investors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These deals go through a high-level due diligence process and are then published on the JPP marketplace, Moodley explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe JPP matching engine algorithm then derives the relevant match(es).
