Satellite-based video on-demand (VOD) service, TV4U, says it will launch in South Africa on 1 February 2015.<\/p>\n
MobileTV founder, Mothobi Mutloatse made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday, 7 October 2014.<\/p>\n
Similar to DStv BoxOffice and Altech Node, TV4U will be a push VOD service that runs through Intelsat\u2019s IS-20 satellite.<\/p>\n
This means that existing DStv and Freevision dish installations may be used to access TV4U services.<\/p>\n
Mutloatse said that they chose IS-20 as it lets them harmonise both their mobile Digital Multimedia Broadcasting offering and video on-demand bouquet.<\/p>\n
Their VOD bouquet will be called \u201cMovielicious\u201d, Mutloatse said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTV4U has assembled an international arsenal of aggregators, content providers, and billing management partners in Los Angeles, London, New York, Toronto, Canada, Paris, and Seoul,\u201d Mutloatse said.<\/p>\n
With these partners, TV4U said it will be able to provide an eclectic mix of Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood, Lollywood, and Joziwood4U entertainment and sports programming.<\/p>\n
Mutloatse added that TV4U has chosen a local decoder manufacturer for its \u201cdynamic VOD decoder\u201d.<\/p>\n
TV4U will launch with the marketing slogan \u201cAffordab-licious pricing\u201d, and Mutluatse boasted that it will cost less than half of what Altech\u2019s Node device does, while the subscription will be less than Vidi\u2019s.<\/p>\n
The decoder-like Node box costs around R3,499, while a Vidi subscription costs R149 per month.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a robust service we have developed with some of the best push VOD experts in the field in Europe, through software we shall reveal when we launch on 1 February 2015,\u201d Mutloatse said.<\/p>\n
