{"id":704627,"date":"2023-07-17T15:01:21","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T13:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=704627"},"modified":"2023-07-17T15:06:57","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T13:06:57","slug":"eskom-eases-load-shedding-with-a-warning-heres-the-new-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/704627\/eskom-eases-load-shedding-with-a-warning-heres-the-new-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom eases load shedding, with a warning &#8211; here&#8217;s the new schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Power utility Eskom says that it will further ease load shedding this week, returning to a similar pattern seen before the cold snap caused outages to escalate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Load shedding will continue at stage 2 until 16h00 on Monday (17 July), thereafter it will escalate to stage 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Load shedding will ease to stage 1 from 05h00 on Tuesday until 16h00, thereafter stage 3 will come into effect until 05h00 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This pattern will repeat until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the utility warned that <strong>power demand is likely to escalate heading toward the weekend<\/strong>, and pleaded with the country to mitigate this by cutting use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monday, 17 July<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 2: until 16h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 4: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tuesday, 18 July<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 4: 00h00 to 05h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 1: 05h00 to 16h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 3: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wednesday, 19 July<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 3: 00h00 to 05h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 1: 05h00 to 16h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 3: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Breakdowns have reduced to 15,747MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 1,946MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Friday, a generating unit each at Kriel, Lethabo, Majuba, and Matla and two generating units at Arnot power stations were returned to service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delay in returning to service a generating unit each at Kendal, Matla and two generating units at Tutuka power stations is contributing to the current capacity constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eskom said that its teams are working tirelessly to return these generating units to service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Demand of electricity is expected to increase towards the weekend.
