{"id":704963,"date":"2023-07-18T17:23:37","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T15:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=704963"},"modified":"2023-07-21T13:03:23","modified_gmt":"2023-07-21T11:03:23","slug":"these-are-the-top-suburbs-in-australia-that-south-africans-are-emigrating-to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/704963\/these-are-the-top-suburbs-in-australia-that-south-africans-are-emigrating-to\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the top suburbs in Australia that South Africans are emigrating to"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In celebration of South Africa&#8217;s &#8220;Mandela Day&#8221;, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has published migration data, showing the top suburbs in each of its territories for South African expats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the stats body, St Ives in New South Wales is the suburb with the highest number of South Africans in the region, with 1,310 expats living there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is followed by 1,029 South Africans making their home in Baldivis, Western Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australia is an incredibly popular destination for South African expats, who are drawn to the country for its similar climate and culture as a Commonwealth nation (former, in South Africa&#8217;s case).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country has also benefitted from these pull factors, with many of South Africa&#8217;s top CEOs and high net worth individuals and skilled professionals now calling it home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"RnMe36g3R5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/property\/684753\/what-you-get-for-r5-million-in-south-africa-vs-australia\/\">What you can get for R5 million in South Africa vs Australia<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;What you can get for R5 million in South Africa vs Australia&#8221; &#8212; BusinessTech\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/property\/684753\/what-you-get-for-r5-million-in-south-africa-vs-australia\/embed\/#?secret=Up5RD8IREB#?secret=RnMe36g3R5\" data-secret=\"RnMe36g3R5\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homeaffairs.gov.au\/research-and-statistics\/statistics\/country-profiles\/profiles\/south-africa\"><strong>Australian Department of Home Affairs<\/strong><\/a>, at the end of June 2021, there were 201,930 South African-born people were living in Australia &#8211; 25% more than the number (161,590) at 30 June 2011. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This makes the South African-born population the seventh largest migrant community in Australia, equivalent to 2.7% of Australia&#8217;s overseas-born population and 0.8% of Australia&#8217;s total population,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Australia&#8217;s South African-born migrants, their median age of 45.1 years &#8211; 6.9 years above that of the general population. Females outnumber males\u201450.4% compared with 49.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Australia&#8217;s permanent Migration Program incorporates economic and family migration and is the main pathway to permanent residence. It includes the Skill stream, Family stream and Special Eligibility visas.
