According to reports, he has been specifically requested to talk about green energy and the Just Energy Transition as part of his lectures. De Ruyter resigned from Eskom in late 2022 and left ahead of his expected final date of making explosive allegations of corruption at the utility, pointing the blame at ANC politicians. While it’s difficult to predict the exact outcome of the system, experts say that the country should gear up for drought conditions and heatwaves nevertheless. The agri sector has warned of the damage the hotter weather can cause to crops and yields, which could impact food prices in the country. He called on South Africans at large to become more efficient in their energy use but said it is vital for the government to lead by example. The city said that where laws overlap for the same function, legislation allows municipalities to apply either set of rules. Based on this interpretation, it said it would likely only use Aarto for speed infringements while relying on standing laws for other traffic violations. The local unit had a rough week, tanking against the dollar on weaker sentiment and having been ‘overbought’ in the week preceding. Despite the gains made by the week-end, the rand was still down 5% against the dollar. On Monday (7 August) the rand was at R18.50 \/USD, R20.34 \/EUR and R23.55 \/GBP.
