Mahindra unveiled its Global Pik Up concept at its Futurescape event in Cape Town on Tuesday (15 August), giving South Africans an idea of what its next-generation bakkie could look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Global Pik Up, launched in response to South Africa ranking as Mahindra’s biggest export market outside of India, features a similar aesthetic to the new Scorpio-N SUV, including the same frontal design and updated Twin Peaks logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe concept represents a well-considered approach to entering newer international markets while strengthening its presence in existing ones with a range of world-class products, beginning with the Global Pik Up,\u201d said Mahindra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBased on the tough and versatile new-gen ladder frame platform, the Global Pik Up promises to be one of the market\u2019s most versatile and capable pickups when it goes into production,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently only in concept form, little is known about the Global Pik Up aside from its appearance, with potential design changes possible before the full unveiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to expect <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the automaker, The new bakkie is built on the same ladder-frame chassis as the new Scorpio-N. It features new the same headlights but a redesigned bumper, grille, wheels, and a load bed instead of a boot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahindra noted that the Global Pik Up is intended to be a \u201cversatile, robust, and stylish vehicle, suitable for a wide range of applications”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s transporting a boat to the lake, moving a horse trailer, or providing storage space for essential gear, the Global Pik Up stands as a reliable option,\u201d said Mahindra. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahindra added that The new high-rider will feature Mahindra’s proprietary intelligent 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system, as well as the all-new AdrenoX-powered infotainment and audio systems found in the Scorpio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety is also a key focus for any new vehicle, and Mahindra noted that it aims to achieve a 5-star safety rating and feature Level 2 advanced driver assistance technologies to meet international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy adhering to the highest global and local safety standards, this pickup promises not only practicality but also peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next-gen bakkie will initially launch in existing markets, including South Africa, Australia, the Middle East and North Africa, New Zealand, and South Central Asia. This marks the first step in strengthening and expanding Mahindra’s presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showcased as a double cab, the Global Pick Up will also have a single cab version, while an extended cab is being studied. It won’t directly replace the Pik Up. However, It will be the flagship in Mahindra’s three-tier bakkie product range, which includes the mid-range Pik Up and the workhorse-focused Bolero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahindra’s Global Pik Up is expected to start production in 2025, but it’s unclear whether it will be produced locally. More details are, however, only expected in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
