{"id":714178,"date":"2023-08-28T14:33:58","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T12:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=714178"},"modified":"2023-08-28T14:33:58","modified_gmt":"2023-08-28T12:33:58","slug":"these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/714178\/these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-28\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most in-demand job skills in South Africa right now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jobs portal CareerJunction has published its latest Employment Insights report for July 2023, highlighting the job skills that are in high demand in South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report is based on comprehensive data gathered from Saongroup South Africa, where 5,000 recruiters advertise positions to registered jobseekers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2023, recruitment activity decreased by 9% month-on-month and 1% year-on-year compared to July 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction said that most sectors were affected by a decline in hiring activity during the month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were major decreases in hiring activity for Business and Management jobs, Finance jobs, IT jobs, as well as Admin, Office and Support jobs. However, as this decrease happened in July, it is not visible in the three-month trend data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, there was a pickup in recruitment over the last three months (May, June, July 2023) compared with the previous three months (February, March, April 2023) in Building and Construction and Finance professionals despite the downturn during July: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The growth in these sectors and the skills sought by recruiters can be found below: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building and Construction &#8211; <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">+22% <\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Building Project Management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Finance <\/strong>&#8211; <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\"><strong>+5%<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bookkeeping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Purchasing &amp; Procurement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Actuarial Management \/ Administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial \/ Project Accounting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>What and Where <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction added that there was a major growth in candidates looking for jobs in the following sectors and jobs: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LEGAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prosecutor \/ Advocate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drafting &amp; Paralegal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal Advisory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BUILDING and CONSTRUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Building Project Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrician<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quantity Surveying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRANSPORTATION<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taxi Driver \/ Chauffeur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Truck Driver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Gauteng remains the largest employment hub in South Africa, with 54% of jobs in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Western Cape (21%) follows in second, whilst KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is in third place with 9%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North West, Limpopo, Free State and Northern Cape provinces have the smallest amount of opportunities (1%) in the country, whilst the international jobs on offer have remained static at 4%. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/career-junction-report-august-1-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"658\" height=\"448\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/career-junction-report-august-1-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-714188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/career-junction-report-august-1-.jpg 658w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/career-junction-report-august-1--300x204.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the Manufacturing and Assembly sector, hiring activity dropped slightly in Gauteng and substantially in the Western Cape (-23%) year-on-year in 2023, following a period of robust demand in 2021 and 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, KZN has seen a consistent increase in demand in this sector over the last three years, including an increase of 3% between 2022 and 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although there was significant growth in demand for Design, Media and arts professionals in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, demand for these roles has dropped across all three provinces since 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, despite a drop in demand for financial jobs in 2022 in South Africa&#8217;s three biggest provinces for employment, Gauteng and the Western Cape saw demand tick up by 8% and 17% in 2023, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Salaries <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CareerJunction has also identified the top three highly sought-after jobs in South Africa&#8217;s warehousing and logistics sector, along with the corresponding salary range: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Warehouse Manager <\/strong>&#8211; from R29 843 to R36 342 per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fleet Controller <\/strong>&#8211; from R14 167 to R17 778 per month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Warehouse Supervisor<\/strong> &#8211;
