{"id":71440,"date":"2014-10-22T23:55:19","date_gmt":"2014-10-22T21:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=71440"},"modified":"2014-10-22T16:17:34","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T14:17:34","slug":"most-expensive-wines-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/71440\/most-expensive-wines-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Most expensive wines in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have a taste for luxury French wines, then expect to pay over R150,000 for some of the most expensive wines the world has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>The world record for most expensive lot of wine sold at auction was broken earlier this month (October 2014), with 114 bottles (750ml) of Burgandy Romanee-Conti wines being sold for $1.6 million (R17.6 million).<\/p>\n<p>This translates to roughly $14,000 (R154,557) a bottle for the vintage haul.<\/p>\n<p>The auction, held in Hong Kong and hosted by Sotheby&#8217;s, also saw the sale of 66-magnum (1.5 litre) collection of Henri Jayer wine, which sold for $1.1 million (R12 million), or $16,000\u00a0(R176,640) a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>While the wine lot record was broken at the auction, two previous records for individual bottles of wine still stand.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Guinness World Records, the most expensive single bottle of wine sold at auction is a $304,375 (R3.36 million) bottle of 1947 French Cheval-Blanc, sold in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The most expensive wine ever sold (non-auction), is a $117,000 (R1.3 million) bottle of Chateau d&#8217;Yquem (1811), which was sold by The Antique Wine Company, in 2011.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_71448\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Chateau-dYquem-1811.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71448\" class=\"size-full wp-image-71448\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Chateau-dYquem-1811.png\" alt=\"Chateau d'Yquem (1811)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Chateau-dYquem-1811.png 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Chateau-dYquem-1811-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-71448\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chateau d&#8217;Yquem (1811)<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Most expensive wines available<\/h3>\n<p>Auctions and rare vintage wines aside, the world&#8217;s most expensive wines fetch a heavy sum, though not as much when <a title=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/70909\/most-expensive-whisky-in-sa\/\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/70909\/most-expensive-whisky-in-sa\/\">compared to whisky prices<\/a>, which can easily retail for tens of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wine-Searcher.com, the world&#8217;s most expensive wine is the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, which retails for an average price of $13,127 (R144,920) a bottle &#8211;
