Luxury traveller magazine, Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler, has released the results of its annual readers\u2019 choice awards \u2013 revealing Cape Town as the best city in Africa, and 4th in world.<\/p>\n

The annual list compiles information on the best cities, hotels and global destination based on its reader survey which drew response from 76,659 people in 2014.<\/p>\n

According to the magazine, Florence, Italy, took the top spot as the best city in the world (from 2nd position last year), followed by Charleston in the USA, Budapest, and Cape Town – 7 spots higher from 11th position in 2013.<\/p>\n

Five of the top 25 cities are found within the USA, Cond\u00e9 Nast said, spread across the entire country – from Santa Fe (10th), to\u00a0San Francisco (20th) on the West Coast, Chicago (23rd) and New Orleans (16th).<\/p>\n

Three of the top 25 cities listed can be found in Italy – aside from Florence (1st), Rome (7th) and Siena (16th) also remain in the top cities. Venice dropped off the list in 2014.<\/p>\n

City scores are an average based on six categories, rated out of 100. These categories are: culture, friendliness, atmosphere, restaurants, lodging and shopping<\/p>\n

Looking at Africa, Cape Town was the only African city to make it into the top 25 – making it the best city on the continent, according to Cond\u00e9 Nast.<\/p>\n

In August, the magazine ranked Cape Town as the world’s 8th friendliest city, thanks to its nature, coastline, mountains and beaches, noting it was also quite safe for tourists.<\/p>\n

However, Johannesburg was ranked as the world’s unfriendliest city, due in large part to safety and security issues associated with it.<\/p>\n

In the “Top 100 Hotels and Resorts in the World” category, Londolozi Private Game Reserve and Camps at Sabi Sand in South Africa was ranked as the top hotel and resort in the world, with an overall score of 98.96.<\/p>\n

The Singita Sabi Sand also cracked the top 10 as the 4th best hotel in the world, with a score of 98.11.<\/p>\n
