{"id":716040,"date":"2023-09-05T07:38:38","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=716040"},"modified":"2023-09-05T07:38:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:38:52","slug":"diesel-crisis-for-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/716040\/diesel-crisis-for-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Diesel crisis for South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>South Africa\u2019s diesel price will this week climb by the most in three years, spurred by higher international fuel costs and a slump in the rand, adding to upside risks to inflation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuel costs will increase by the most in 14 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The wholesale price of diesel used in agriculture and for emergency power generation will raise by as much as R2.84 per litre on Wednesday, the Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe said in a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s an advance of 14% from August, the biggest monthly percentage increase since mid-2020, when prices fluctuated sharply because of low demand as the economy shut down during the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The retail price of 93-octane and 95-octane petrol will increase by R1.71 per litre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maximum cost of illuminating paraffin, used for cooking and lighting in areas where many people don\u2019t have access to electricity, will jump by as much as R3.70 per litre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"wCwnmovpNd\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/715300\/here-is-the-official-petrol-price-for-september-4\/\">Here is the official petrol price for September<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
