{"id":716934,"date":"2023-09-07T15:28:41","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T13:28:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=716934"},"modified":"2023-09-07T15:28:41","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T13:28:41","slug":"good-news-for-rugby-world-cup-2023-fans-who-dont-have-dstv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/716934\/good-news-for-rugby-world-cup-2023-fans-who-dont-have-dstv\/","title":{"rendered":"Good news for Rugby World Cup 2023 fans who don&#8217;t have DStv"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MultiChoice says it will sub-license broadcast rights to the SABC for the Rugby World Cup 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MutiChoice said that the SABC accepted a proposal it made on 18 August 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the agreement between the two companies, the SABC will broadcast 16 matches, including the opening ceremony and opening match, all matches that the Springboks participate in, two quarter-final matches, one semi-final, the bronze final, the final and the closing ceremony.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If South Africa does not qualify for the knockout stages, these matches will still be available for broadcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to have reached an arrangement with the SABC in the spirit of cooperation,\u201d said Marc Jury, chief executive of MultiChoice SA, said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This marks a quick turnaround as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/506512-sabc-refuses-to-pay-r38-million-for-springbok-world-cup-games-after-sending-ceo-on-r70-million-trip-to-fifa-world-cup.html\" target=\"_blank\">MyBroadband <\/a>reported earlier this week that the SABC refused to pay MultiChoice $2 million (over R35 million) for the rights to broadcast all potential Springbok games at the competition live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One SABC insider said that MultiChoice was using an old strategy where it attempted to push the SABC into a decision at the last minute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe approach them ahead of time.
