More than 10,000 protesters took to the streets of Budapest Sunday to rally against a proposed law that would set a 150-forint (61-cent) fee per gigabyte of internet data transmitted.<\/p>\n
It was the biggest demonstration reported against the centre-right administration of President Victor Orban in more than two years.<\/p>\n
Speakers at the demonstration demanded the repeal of the draft law. They gave Orban 48 hours to take the action.<\/p>\n
The proposal, set to go before the legislature on Tuesday, would be the only one of its kind in Europe.<\/p>\n
The demonstration on Sunday was called by a Facebook group founded five days agao called Hundreds of Thousdands Against the Internet Tax.<\/p>\n
More than 200,000 people have so far “liked” a Facebook page created five days ago decrying the proposal.<\/p>\n
The demonstrators received support from European Union Digital Commissioner Neelie Kroes, who urged people on Twitter to follow people who are outraged over Hungary’s tax plan and who were protesting Sunday.<\/p>\n
