{"id":722148,"date":"2023-10-01T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-01T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=722148"},"modified":"2023-12-14T11:36:43","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T09:36:43","slug":"jobs-that-pay-more-than-the-r26000-average-salary-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wealth\/722148\/jobs-that-pay-more-than-the-r26000-average-salary-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Jobs that pay more than the R26,000 average salary in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The latest data from Stats SA shows that the average salary in South Africa &#8211; for the formal, non-agricultural sector &#8211; has increased to R26,000 a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total amount paid to employees in salaries over the last quarter jumped by 5.4% or R42.9 billion from June 2022 to June 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the regular salary\/wages paid to employees rose by 2.6% from R738.5 billion in March 2023 to R19.3 billion in the quarter ending June 2023, Stats SA said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis increase was mainly driven by the growth in salary\/wages in community services, business services, trade, manufacturing, construction, transport and mining. However, the electricity industry showed a decrease in salary\/wages,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/average-montly-earnings-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"937\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/average-montly-earnings-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-721640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/average-montly-earnings-.jpg 937w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/average-montly-earnings--300x128.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/average-montly-earnings--768x328.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 937px) 100vw, 937px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stats SA\u2019s Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) data covers eight key industries or sectors in South Africa, which is split further into 20 sub-categories, mainly made up of various manufacturing sectors, as well as a split between government and non-government community and social services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dataset covers earning estimates across 90 job types in the formal, non-agricultural sector, indicating which job types or sectors draw the highest monthly earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notably, of the 90 jobs covered by the survey, 46 job types pay higher than the national average &#8211; with the highest average being R67,169 per month for those working around financial intermediation in the business services sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other high-paying jobs include those in the electricity, gas, steam and water supply, as well as the computer (IT) and related activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The table below outlines all 46 jobs that pay an average salary higher than the national average of R26,000.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1098\" height=\"2103\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-722150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary.jpg 1098w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary-157x300.jpg 157w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary-535x1024.jpg 535w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary-768x1471.jpg 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary-802x1536.jpg 802w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Higher-than-average-salary-1069x2048.jpg 1069w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1098px) 100vw, 1098px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Looking at a more general sector overview, the electricity, gas and water supply sector has the highest average salary at R51,145 per month, and this is followed by the transport, storage and communication sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lower-paid jobs are found in the textiles and furniture manufacturing sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Average-salary-by-industry-September-2023.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"974\" height=\"959\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Average-salary-by-industry-September-2023.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-722154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Average-salary-by-industry-September-2023.jpg 974w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Average-salary-by-industry-September-2023-300x295.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Average-salary-by-industry-September-2023-768x756.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The table below outlines the 20 highest-paying job sectors in South Africa, based on the most recent earnings data as reported by Stats SA.
