{"id":722186,"date":"2023-09-30T13:16:57","date_gmt":"2023-09-30T11:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=722186"},"modified":"2023-09-30T13:16:57","modified_gmt":"2023-09-30T11:16:57","slug":"load-shedding-suspended-for-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/722186\/load-shedding-suspended-for-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Load shedding suspended for Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Power utility Eskom has announced that load shedding will remain suspended on Saturday, only to return on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said that, due to improved generation performance and lower-than-anticipated demand, load shedding will be suspended all of Saturday and Sunday through to 16h00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thereafter, stage 2 load shedding will resume until 05h00 on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Saturday, 30 September<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suspended: until 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sunday, 1 October<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suspended: 00h00 to 16h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monday, 2 October<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage and time TBD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The grid remains under strain and unpredictable, so South Africans are warned that the situation can change at very short notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any change to load shedding should it be required,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Breakdowns are currently at 14,266MW of generating capacity while the capacity out of service for<br>planned maintenance is 5,388MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Arnot, Duvha, Ingula and Vanderkloof power stations was taken offline for repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same period, a generating unit at Hendrina Power Station was returned to service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eskom\u2019s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 27,606MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Positively, Eskom\u2019s current outages are lower than the target set for its forward-looking forcarst, which is set at 14,500MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the group manages to maintain outages at or below these levels, Eskom has a higher chance of keeping load shedding capped at stage 4 in the coming months as demand picks up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-businesstech wp-block-embed-businesstech\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"0BGcxWytbU\"><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/721338\/eskoms-load-shedding-outlook-for-the-rest-of-2023\/\">Eskom&#8217;s load shedding outlook for the rest of 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute;
